With opening night fast approaching, the Philadelphia Sixers are ready to come back better than ever. After exceeding majority of expectations, obtaining the third seed in the eastern conference, winning 52 games and making it to the second round of the playoffs, the Sixers can only look to improve and grow from their journey from their short but sweet journey. This offseason was one of promise and despite not resigning key players in Marco Belinelli and Ersan Ilyasova, the Sixers resigned Amir Johnson, a guy who gave us great minutes off the bench, and J.J. Redick, an absolutely lethal three point shooter who many thought would leave Philly after one year. Also, despite trading away the hometown hero in the draft Mikal Bridges, the Sixers acquired Zhaire Smith, an insanely athletic combo guard and Landry Shamet, one of the best shooters in college hoops last season. Our big 3 is back and even stronger. Markelle Fultz has found his groove again after working with Drew Hanlen this summer to reshape his jumper. It is rumored that Fultz will be starting alongside Ben in the backcourt, joined by Robert Covington, Dario Saric and Joel Embiid in the frontcourt, which will provide for yet another year of exciting basketball. Ben Simmons is coming off of a fabulous Rookie of the Year Campaign and a summer of working on his jumper. Joel Embiid is fresh off an amazing year on both of the ends of the floor, averaging career bests in almost every category last season. On media day, Joel emphasized his desire to focus on a more “bully ball” style of play this coming season, which is going to be exciting to watch. The Sixers have been on the hunt for a new GM after the team parted ways with Bryan Colangelo amidst the “burner account” scandal in mid summer and ever since then, Coach Brown has been in command of the helm, taking his role of interim GM very seriously. Last week however, the Sixers hired former player and mentor Elton Brand to take the role of true GM. The entirety of the Sixers organization is very pleased with this acquisition, especially Joel who reminisced about the day he dunked on Brand. Overall, the Sixers had a very solid offseason. They might not have signed LeBron or Paul George or Kawhi Leonard but, this team’s core is as solid as they come. The Sixers are gonna be right up there at the top of the conference. They are ready to compete with the Raptors and Celtics for the eastern conference throne.
